Missouri Military Academy students have a special opportunity to experience the exhilarating weightlessness of underwater diving in a safe, controlled environment in one of our many levels of SCUBA certification classes. Students who have taken prior PADI courses will have the ability to continue to advance their skills in this area under the guidance of our expert, well-certified SCUBA instructor.
Discover SCUBA CourseThis course is available to Summer Academy students. They begin by learning the basics of scuba diving and then suit up in full gear to test their new skills in the safe confines of our Olympic-sized swimming pool. They learn to “breathe” underwater as they adjust their buoyancy as if suspended in space.
Completing this course puts a student on track to an internationally recognized SCUBA certification as they learn skills that can be credited toward the PADI SCUBA Diver or Open Water Diver certifications. The course is conducted as an after-school activity durign the summer program and accompanies an additional fee of $75 (100% credit on your next certification – ask for detail) (Must be at least 10 yrs old)
Open Water Diver Course This is the beginner course for Missouri Military Academy boarding students. The PADI Open Water Diver course is the world’s most popular scuba course. Students "breathe" underwater for the first time and learn what is necessary to become a certified diver. During the course, students make at least five pool dives under the supervision of your PADI Instructor. This is the first level of a Lifetime certification, with possible college credit! (Must be at least 10 yrs old)
The course is conducted as a regular athletic or weekend event and requires an additional fee of $400.
Adventure Diver Course
Advanced students can move on to take the PADI Adventure Diver course. Students will try digital underwater photography and wreck diving. Each Adventure Dive may be credited toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty course, placing students on a path to becoming a Master Scuba Diver.
Students 10 and older can choose any three of the following Adventure Dives:
•Altitude Diver
•AWARE-Fish Identification
•Boat Diver
•Digital Underwater Photography
•Dry Suit Diver
•Peak Performance Buoyancy
•Underwater Naturalist
•Underwater Navigator
Students 12 and older can also choose among these courses:
•Deep Diver
•Diver Propulsion Vehicle
•Drift Diver
•Multilevel Diver
•Night Diver
•Search and Recovery Diver
•Underwater Videography
•Wreck Diver
The course is conducted as a regular athletic or weekend event and requires an additional fee depending on the chosen electives. (Must be at least 10 yrs old to participate.)
Advanced Open Water Diver The PADI Open Water Diver course is a prerequisite to this advanced course, which allows students to hone their SCUBA skills by completing five adventure dives that introduce:
•Underwater navigation
•Deeper water diving (typically anywhere from 18-30 meters/ 60-100 feet)
•A sampler of three more Adventure Dives of the student's choice.
Each Adventure Dive in the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course may credit toward the first dive of the corresponding PADI Specialty Diver course.
The course is conducted as a regular athletic or weekends and requires an additional fee dependent on electives chosen. (must be at least 12 yrs old)
Rescue Diver CourseThis advanced course teaches:
•Self rescue
•Recognizing and managing stress in other divers
•Emergency management and equipment
•Rescuing panicked divers
•Rescuing unresponsive divers.
(must be at least 12 yrs old)
Students may be able to earn college credit for the PADI Rescue Diver Course.
Master SCUBA DiverTM Rating Missouri Military Academy offers the opportunity to achieve the PADI Master SCUBA Diver rating, the highest non professional level in the PADI System of diver education. Students who achieve this rating have acquired significant training and experience in a variety of dive environments. (Must be at least 12 yrs old)
PADI Divemaster Course This course represents the first step in working with scuba as a career. Students expand dive knowledge and hone skills to the professional level under close direction of a SCUBA Instructor. PADI Divemaster training develops leadership abilities, qualifying students to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. PADI Divemaster is the prerequisite certification for both the PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Open Water SCUBA Instructor certifications.
(Must be at least 18 yrs old)
All courses use curriculum and techniques approved by the
Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). Who can participate?Missouri Military Academy students who are at least 10 years old (some courses have different age requirements) and who have a completed and signed Medical Form and Limited Liability Release.
